Mendenhall Glacier Lake Canoe Tour

Overview
Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. Be one of the few to step away from the crowds and get face to face with glacier. This Tour is canoeing only and DOES NOT INCLUDE hiking on a glacier.

Five stars is not enough for this trip of a lifetime! Paul was a great guide and funny too. He kept us focused on stories and history while we rowed, blocking out the rain and pain of a 6 mile canoe. It was well worth it to see the glacier up close and I would do it again. Pro tip: ask Paul to make you a mocha when you get done!

Canoe ride to breathtaking glacier. As close as you can get to Mendenhall and nugget falls. Tour guides Paul and Kelby were both great. Informative and clearly passionate about their work and love of the area. The clothing provided kept us dry and warm. No need to worry about footwear, pants, jacket, gloves. Helmet also required for hike portion. The hike is not very strenuous. You walk right along the glacier. I would recommend and would do again. My only suggestion would have been to take our time a bit more on the canoe portion. We pounded out the paddling in good time and rest breaks were given, but I might have liked a few more breaks in hindsight. Not so much from being tired but to just look around more and absorb the beautiful surroundings. Have to stay a bit focused on what youā€™re doing when paddling. Donā€™t hesitate to book. You wonā€™t be disappointed in the scenery!

Kevin killed it. Great instructions and interesting facts about the area, the glacier, and geology in general. As for the format of the tour, it was the perfect amount of work (we like active tours) to make for a satisfying tour. Kevin made sure we all knew safety procedures and overall you'll be in great hands. The lake, the glacier, the waterfall, and the surrounding mountains were all beautiful. The scenery was very dramatic and a great example of what Alaska has to offer.
