Overview

Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. Be one of the few to step away from the crowds and get face to face with glacier. This Tour is canoeing only and DOES NOT INCLUDE hiking on a glacier.

What To Expect

Liquid Alaska Tours

Liquid Alaska Tours pick up guests at the cruise ship docks and their experience starts right there. This is a 4 hour all inclusive tour, including 2 hours paddling around the Mendenhall Lake to see the Mendenhall Glacier and experience the wild of Alaska in the Tongass National Forest, the largest National Forest in the United States.

Mendenhall Glacier

Guests will get up close and personal with the Mendenhall Glacier as they canoe up to the face of the glacier and experience it from a canoe on Mendenhall Lake.

Tongass National Forest

Our entire tour takes place in Tongass National Forest. We bring guests out to the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area to the West Side Glacier Parking area. This is where our tour gears up, goes over safety and paddling instructions and starts our paddle to the Mendenhall Glacier- all located in the Tongass National Forest.

This was such a fun tour to take. What made it so fun was our guide Bryce. He is very educated and taught all of us many new things. This tour was an arm workout!

Wow! What a phenomenal experience beginning to end. This was our favorite excursion while in Alaska. The opportunity to get up close to the Mendenhall Glacier isn’t as easy as other excursions make you think. In fact, virtually none get you this close. In fact, a visit to the visitors center gives you only a fraction of a view. Paul and Kelsie were fantastic tour guides, answered a lot of questions, provided great information and gave us a view that only 1% of visitors see. We didn’t book this through the cruise line, so don’t expect to see it offered. We booked this excursion independently and I’m so glad we did. Just stellar - and easy to accomplish within our time in port. I can’t recommend this highly enough.

We came to Alaska to take in the natural beauty and it did not disappoint! The glacier was breathtaking and our tour guide, Kelsie was not only knowledgable but she was also so much fun and made the trip extra enjoyable. It was nice to have the snacks and water during the trip as well as all our rain gear that helped so much to keep us dry and warm. The hot drinks after was extra nice and the staff was just top notch. Would totally recommend this trip!
