Overview

Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. Be one of the few to step away from the crowds and get face to face with glacier. This Tour is canoeing only and DOES NOT INCLUDE hiking on a glacier.

What To Expect

Liquid Alaska Tours

Liquid Alaska Tours pick up guests at the cruise ship docks and their experience starts right there. This is a 4 hour all inclusive tour, including 2 hours paddling around the Mendenhall Lake to see the Mendenhall Glacier and experience the wild of Alaska in the Tongass National Forest, the largest National Forest in the United States.

Mendenhall Glacier

Guests will get up close and personal with the Mendenhall Glacier as they canoe up to the face of the glacier and experience it from a canoe on Mendenhall Lake.

Tongass National Forest

Our entire tour takes place in Tongass National Forest. We bring guests out to the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area to the West Side Glacier Parking area. This is where our tour gears up, goes over safety and paddling instructions and starts our paddle to the Mendenhall Glacier- all located in the Tongass National Forest.

Definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to see the Glacier. The views were spectacular, and our guides Kelsey & Paul were helpful and knowledgeable. They provided snacks and all the gear you need to be comfortable no matter the weather. They even made coffee and hot cocoa to warm us up after our trip. This is a great close up view of the glacier.

We were really lucky with the weather today. Little wind and no rain helped to make this a great day out on the water tinder the glacier from a different perspective. Lena was a great guide for our little group of 6. She is knowledgeable and great fun to be around and took great care of us. Highly recommended!!

We did the Mendenhall Glacier Canoe excursion with Matt & Mike on July 5th, 2022, during our Princess Alaska Cruise (booked privately, not through the cruise). What an amazing experience!! Matt & Mike made us feel super comfortable the whole time - they were both highly professional, experienced, strong, confident, friendly and fun to be with. Their knowledge of the Glacier and environment was fascinating to listen to. Our day on the lake was sunny but very windy - I understand other trips cancelled as lake was very choppy and canoeing would be challenging. Matt & Mike would not cancel, and with both these strong men doing heavy work canoeing our 12 men canoe, we reached the Glacier after about 90 minutes. Hiking to the foot of the Glacier, Mike then went onto the Glacier & used a pick axe to bring us back a piece of 3000 year old ice to taste! Wow! That was incredible!! Highly recommend Mike & Matt as your guides if you are planning this incredible adventure!! Both are amazing men, strong and confident and will look after you and ensure you have wonderful life long memories. I really appreciated that Matt & Mike did not cancel our adventure due to high winds even if it meant harder rowing for them! Thank you Matt & Mike - hope your mom and family read this review and feel very proud of the wonderful & respectful men you are!!
