Overview
Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Super fun time! You canoe across the lake which isnā€™t too challenging, learning fun facts and some history along the way. Then you put on crampons and hike around the glacier which was really cool. Ryan and Baxter were our guides. Super fun but responsible and always made us feel safe.

This tour was definitely a major highlight of our tour of SE Alaska via the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry! Ryan and Casey, the canoe/hiking/glacier walk guides were extremely professional and safety first, which is needed to get visitors of varying abilities across a very cold lake and to walk on the glacial ice. It was worth money to be almost the only people on beautiful Lake Mendenhall and to walk on the glacier. It was sobering to see the effects of climate change up close and personal, though as both guides relayed how far the glacier had receded just in there time with Liquid Alaska Tours. It was worth the money!
