Overview

Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. Be one of the few to step away from the crowds and get face to face with glacier. This Tour is canoeing only and DOES NOT INCLUDE hiking on a glacier.

What To Expect

Liquid Alaska Tours

Liquid Alaska Tours pick up guests at the cruise ship docks and their experience starts right there. This is a 4 hour all inclusive tour, including 2 hours paddling around the Mendenhall Lake to see the Mendenhall Glacier and experience the wild of Alaska in the Tongass National Forest, the largest National Forest in the United States.

Mendenhall Glacier

Guests will get up close and personal with the Mendenhall Glacier as they canoe up to the face of the glacier and experience it from a canoe on Mendenhall Lake.

Tongass National Forest

Our entire tour takes place in Tongass National Forest. We bring guests out to the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area to the West Side Glacier Parking area. This is where our tour gears up, goes over safety and paddling instructions and starts our paddle to the Mendenhall Glacier- all located in the Tongass National Forest.

Highlight of our trip in Juneau! Paddling out through the mist past icebergs really connected us with nature. The glacier hike was out of this world - gorgeous blue ice and serene views. The guides were fantastic - keeping us safe while ensuring we really appreciated the beauty (and temporary nature) of the glacier. This is not for the non-adventurous - this is an active experience - but you won’t be sweating or (too) exhausted.

This was an amazing experience! Worth every penny! Casey and Andrew were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable! They had everything you needed-boots, waterproof pants, dry bags…Transportation to the lake was easy. Canoeing to the glacier was beautiful! And walking on the glacier-a once in a lifetime experience!!!!

Amazing day out on the glacier! Casey and Ryan were our guises today and made our time nothing short of amazing. They were knowledgeable about what they were showing us, and always keeping our safety in mind. The canoe ride was a fun one; with beautiful views all the way to the glacier. The heat provided held up to the weather (windy) and would have been perfect for any sort of precipitation. Once you make it to the glacier, time is spent going over safety protocols, which were explained fully and simply. There was plenty of time spent on the glacier, with Casey and Ryan acting as our photographers and loving it. If you want a safe and absolutely amazing experience out on the glacier, take this tour literally now!!! Casey and Ryan are your guys, and will make your experience everything it should be.
