Mendenhall Glacier Lake Canoe Tour

Overview
Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. Be one of the few to step away from the crowds and get face to face with glacier. This Tour is canoeing only and DOES NOT INCLUDE hiking on a glacier.

We had a fun time with Andrew and Casey. It was our first canoe experience. It was a bit precarious at first, but after a while, it was fun. We spent more than an hour on the glacier. Beautiful views and lots of photo opportunities. One thing I will say, though - if you are short on time, I suggest taking the Helicopter glacier trek instead. Helicopters land further up on the glacier. Views are much better, and it is less crowded.

Thank you for your review, as we are always looking to improve! Helicopters do indeed land further up on the glacier, however our company focussed on eco-friendly human powered activities that allow us to get up close to the active terminus of the glacier. We are sorry to hear that you felt parts of the experience were precarious, as Safety is our #1 priority. We kindly request you contact us to provide more detailed feedback. 1-800-892-5504 or [email protected]

The water was like glass and we had a small group of seven to paddle. Casey had picked us up promptly at our designated spot. Our adventure began as a Lake Canoe Tour, evolved into a Glacier Trek, and was punctuated by spotting a bear as we left Mendenhall Glacier. Ryan and Casey were exceptional Guides. They were thoroughly organized providing us with necessary gear. The weather was absolutely perfect! One of the very best days of our trip! Many thanks for Liquid Alaska Tours.

You're very welcome and it was true luck to have perfect weather AND to see a bear! We hope your next visit to Juneau is equally as amazing!

We had a wonderful day (by Juneau standards) with a light drizzle. The day started off meeting Casey at the cruise terminal where a shuttle brought us to a parking lot where the rest of the group joined and we got fitted for our gear (raincoat/pants/gloves/rainboots, helmet, life vest, a dry bag with snacks and a bottle of water). We took a canoe out to Mendenhall Glacier and it wasn't a hard row out to the glacier. There, we helped hoist the canoe out of the water, got fitted with microspikes, and then started walking on the glacier! We got to see beautiful crevasses and try some glacial ice. Felt safe the entire time. It wasn't difficult at all and we had a great time! Thanks Ryan, Andrew, and Casey!

Thank you for joining us! We love our liquid sunshine in Southeast Alaska, almost as much as showing off the amazing Mendenhall Glacier.
