I thought that the evening might be a little hokey, but honestly, it was extremely enjoyable and memorable. We arrived and were seated. They have an open bar before the Master of Ceremonies starts. Our guy was really funny - I was so impressed with his knowledge of world languages! We learned about the waca, how the food was prepared, how the Maori warriors arrived, were greeted by the chief, enjoyed a cultural performance of song and dance, and then had dinner. To top it off, we took a short walk in the bush and saw glow worms. This whole evening was so fun and memorable. I also got to have pavlova - which was absolutely delicious!!! By the time I got to the buffet, the food was a little scarce. However, I was definitely full. I highly recommend this experience if you want to experience and learn more about the original New Zealand people.

We had a fabulous evening at the Mitai Maori Village. The canoe full of warriors and the village show with the dancing and singing gave us a good understanding of the Maori culture. The dinner was excellent and you could not go away hungry. The emcee for the evening continued to educate us in a very thoughtful way. Even though there were 150-200 tourists in attendance, we certainly did not feel like tourists but more like valued guests in family village. I think they said the family has been doing this for 17 years and you can see they have got it down to a science.

We wanted to learn about Maori culture, and love to do things we can't do at home. So we decided to book this experience. Overall, it was really neat. They explained a lot about their culture and traditions. The performance was neat. Entertaining and interesting. It was quite chilly out, but they had heaters so it was comfortable during the performance. The food was surprisingly tasty, and was plentiful. My only complaint is that it was way over crowded. We were 4 people deep trying to see that Hangi and the Waka (and we had been split into 2 groups at that point). And then seeing the warrior performance was difficult due to the crowd, and people pushing in front. For dinner, the crowd wasn't a huge deal, as they had 4 buffets set up. But it was frustrating being unable to see the other interesting parts. Overall, slightly overpriced, but we were happy we went.
