The Extended backcountry tour offers all Highlight stops and additional stops that are not covered in the regular backcountry tour. Spend more time with your Navajo guide and indulge in an experience that uncovers the secrets, myths, and legends of the Navajo Culture. Navigate through 28 miles of Monument Valley's Finest spectacles where movies, commercials, and performances were made. Enjoy the luxury of exploring areas that are off-limits to normal travelers; and listen and watch your guide bring the monuments to life through its history, story telling, and live performances. Enjoy a visit to a local Navajo Hogan and watch a demonstration of the art of Navajo Rug Weaving. Behind the breathtaking Mesas, Buttes, Spires, and Arches there are hidden stories waiting to be told.

This was an excellent tour, informative, fun and with lots of photo stops. Our guide Reever did such a perfect job telling us about Navajo traditions and sharing stories of his family, along with explaining all about the rock formations and scenery. Reever even played the flute and sang for us, and really made the day special. My two 16 year old sons were with us, and they really enjoyed the tour as well.

Our guide his name is Larry team and he was a native Navajo Indian he explained things in detail about the novel Indians and the Monument history

This was a great tour. It was very cold in the morning and they were able to provide an enclosed van that was able to attach a car seat (make sure you request this if you need to use a car seat). Our guide was very informative and explained some of the Navajo history, customs, and building of hogans. We stopped at the hogan and received a talk/example of the rug weaving process from an elder woman. If you are at all interested in sewing/weaving/etc, this is well worth the stop. She explained and showed the long process of taking the raw wool, prepping it, turning it into yarn, then the dying/weaving process. Just the preparation and dying of the wool can take months. The only thing to know is it does not do the whole 17 mile drive, only about the first half.
