This was an excellent tour. The Navajo guide was terrific. We went on the 90 tour which included a tour of a hogan where a weaver was working and, at another stop, our guide played his flute. These experiences were worth the increased price. I think having a guided tour is the way to go. Otherwise, you might as well just look at pictures of the buttes in a book! I also would not recommend driving your own vehicle through the park...the road is awfully poor.

Our Navajo guide was very good. We were the only two with him, so it was easy to talk and ask questions. The sights, of course, were awesome! The ride was quite bumpy, but to be expected. Our only complaint was the stop at the family hogan. We spent about a half hour there, which was excessive. Also, it was pointed out that we were expected to place money in the Donation box. We definitely did not appreciate being put in that position when we had already paid a considerable amount for the tour.

Don't skip this tour!
We did this wonderful 2.5 hour tour yesterday and it was a highlight of our 30 day RV trip. Toney did a fantastic job explaining everything about the mesa's and spirals, to the way they spin wool and dye it, to the pictographs and petroglyphs and much more. He is a very wise man that we were fortunate to meet. The tour was absolutely eye opening and heartwarming. We loved every minute of it. He stopped at all the best photo ops and even helped with camera/phone set up. The horses running free in the back country were fun to watch and the views are amazing. DO NOT waste your time driving this yourself - you are kidding yourself if you think you know what you are doing. You really need to let these people drive you and make you understand what you are looking at. This is a very sacred place and should be treated with respect.
