Perfect time of year for our visit to DC. Crowds are minimal and weather was perfect. Be sure to leave extra time if you are driving for traffic in DC and parking at Mount Vernon site. We specially enjoyed the inside home tour with costumed docents. there is significant waking to see most of the plantation...wear comfortable shoes and lite jackets , if windy.
Nice to freely roam the property. The house tour was well done with access to individuals throughout the house to answer questions and give commentary. There is so much to see both indoors museum/tour center and around the massive grounds - can't take it in in one visit.
We really enjoyed our tour of Mt. Vernon, VA. The grounds around the mansion are more extensive than I thought. The Museum and Education Center was very interesting. I would love to return and learn more about George Washington's life and political influences. We didn't have time to visit the distillery and gristmill. It would be interesting to take special tours around the mansion and the farms. Very glad we had several hours to spend there.
