We optimize the time you spend on the trails of Coastal Redwoods by arriving before the crowds. You’ll spend 1.5 hours (or more!) enjoying California’s native flora and fauna, taking in giant ferns, moss-lined creeks, fresh bay leaf-scented air from the many Laurel trees and squirrels, blue jays and deer if you’re lucky.

We had a fabulous day out at Muir Woods forest and Sausalito with our guide Amanda. We were able to be picked up from an alternate hotel in very close walking distance and enjoyed the sights with Amanda's guided commentary. Our first stop was the Golden Gate Bridge and Amanda was more than happy to help us all take some beautiful photos with the bridge in the background. We then went on to the Muir Woods forest where we were given time to self-explore this wonderful landscape. From there we headed to the quaint town of Sausalito where Amanda's recommendation of the local Cafe Tutti was absolutely fabulous - amazing lunch there!! Amanda was then able to drop us off at a location so we could then keep exploring for the remainder of the day. The only downside was that our travel agent had advised the tour ended at 1pm so we had planned on further afternoon activities, however upon pick-up we were advised the tour ended around 3:30pm - we were lucky enough to be able to shuffle the afternoon bookings to suit but just be mindful of the tour times.

That's all wonderful to hear. We love thee Sausalito stop on the return from Muir Woods (and Cafe Tutti was a great choice). We'll let Amanda know you had a great time.

Don't book - don't go. Tour tells me the day before it's not going. Before I booked the tour I was told it would definitely go so I booked the airfare just to do this and now I'll just hang out.

Linda - All of us at Extranomical Tours are sorry not to have been able to take you to Muir Woods yesterday. As we explained on the phone, the safety measure taken by PG&E (our local utility) to shut down the power to prevent additional wildfires prompted the National Park Service to shut down the park. There are no fires threatening the park and officials are currently forecasting to open the park on Wednesday. All of Extranomical's other tours to Yosemite, Monterey, Napa Valley, and San Francisco City tour are unimpacted by the power outages. Give us a call this morning and we'll get your vacation back on track.

The only downside to this trip is the brief time you have in Muir Woods - it's 90 minutes in total. We did the more ambitious hike to the 4th bridge up the hill ridge trail, and to really experience the woods it is best to be able to stand/sit in the groves, and enjoy the silence. We had to really turn up the speed on the hike back to make it back to our transportation on time. The woods itself is breathtaking - a special place worth remembering, and the smell in the air is so fresh. One other small detail - our entrance to the National Monument of Muir Woods was NOT included with this tour price - it was $15 for an adult, no charge for kids under 16, it would have been good to have more clarity that the tickets were not inclusive of this. Another tip, the roads accessing Muir woods are narrow and very windy. If you are taking younger children who get motion sick, advise to take Gravol a half hour before the drive out. The shuttle driver was excellent, very professional, and gave a good overview of the area and also gave some narration in San Francisco. A great guide.

Bridge FOUR...great hike and you got to see all the highlights on that trail! You'll be happy to know that we've listened and now include the Muir Woods entry fee within the tour price. Thanks for all your good suggestions.
