We visited in October when power was shut off because of the current fires and impending risk. Because of this we didnāt get to go to Muir Woods but was instead offered either a refund, reschedule, or to take a modified trip to Old Mill Park where there would be redwood trees. Because we only had that day to be in the Bay Area and no immediate plans to return, we opted for the modified trip.
While weāve never seen a redwood tree in person before, I was mesmerized by the size and smell. We took a ton of pictures. A group of ladies on the bus with us said Muir Woods is even larger. So I guess ignorance was bliss for us.
The bus left on time and the driver was fun and friendly sharing little fun facts along with way making the hour drive feel much shorter.
We paid extra to ride the ferry back from Sausalito and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it because you get to take your time and enjoy the town. We had lunch at Scomas, then shopped our way back to Bacchus & Venus, and just in time to catch the last Ferry of the day. This Ferry ride included surprise (to us) stop in Tiburon for additional passengers, but we didnāt mind because it was more time on the water and they had beverages (adult too!) and snacks available for purchase.
When we returned to the downtown bay we had a display of the Blue Angels for Fleet Week and capped off our evening with drinks and apps from Boudin.
Overall, it was the best of the situation and Iām still pleased with the experience.

Dear U9920HBloric,
Thank you for sharing such a detailed review on our tour!
On the one hand, I sincerely regret the problem you experienced; Muir Woods was indeed closed due to PG&E power outages back in October. However, we managed to send all the information to our customers offering them different choices and trying to minimise the inconveniences as much as possible. I am happy to see you decided to take the tour to Old Mill Park and enjoy the redwoods with our knowledgeable driver-guide.
On the other hand, taking the ferry back from Sausalito to the city is a fantastic choice, since it allows you to have more time in the village and enjoy the stunning views on the way back.
Kind regards,
Manager at Gray Line of San Francisco
