I visited the Museum of the City of New York in December 2021. I walked the Museum Mile from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to the Museum of the City of New York passing many other museums on the way. I bought my ticket online the evening before. The first thing I saw was a great 30-minute film on the history of New York from 1609 to present. The film was narrated by Stanley Tucci. Then I went around the museum. The exhibits included: New York Music, Puppets, Stettmeyer Doll House, Activism in New York from 1609 to present (included Black Lives Matter and George Floyd), the History of NYC as a World City, the History of NYC as a Port City. I think it is a very good museum and I plan to go again in the future.

We visited the puppet museum, the miniatures exhibit, the rising sea levels exhibit, and we watched the 1/2 hour movie about the history of New York City. The size of the museum is perfect--the various exhibits were reasonably sized and were very well done which kept our interest through each of the different areas. The exhibits are historical as well as modern and timely which also helped to keep our interest and educate us at the same time. Highly recommended!

I don't know how one is able to visit this museum as it is often closed for private events. I went once this week and it was closed for filming and a second time and it was closed for a private wedding. There was nothing on the web site about the closures and the information number on the telephone has a recording that stated that the museum was open. The guards at the gates did not want to hear my complaints.
