I’ve been living and working temporarily in Alaska for 10 months and have been privileged to see and do a lot of things in this magnificent state, but none other compares with the mushing adventure that Dallas Seavey and his colleagues offer. From the moment our guide Isaac (great guy and fellow Navy veteran) picked our group up at the Talkeetna Roadhouse, we felt part of the family. Isaac told us the history of the Iditarod, the Seavey family history and unmatched success story, and a bit about the area and the sled racing culture. We got to the Seavey training area and kennels and were immediately struck with the professionalism and very humane and loving atmosphere of the great sled dogs. My wife and I drove a team of 6 dogs, 3 of which were 2 time Iditarod champions! The trip with the dogs was fantastic! We stopped a few times and got to know these fantastic athlete animals. And this experience was the culmination of a lifelong dream to drive a dogsled team. After we mushed, we returned to the kennels and met the dogs again, and got to spend times with the pups, and look around the training area. Again, I cant think of a more professional and humane operation. We took photos of our group of course, and at the end we received a special treat; Dallas Seavey spent time with us and we got a group photo with him and his daughter. All in all a perfect day in Alaska!
