We will also stop at Charlie's Place Historic Site where the greatest names in 20th Century American music performed from the 1930s to the 1960s. The club itself, which had been a popular stop on what was known as the "Chitlin' Circuit," is no longer there, but Charlie's home is along with a reconstruction of his motel that was listed in THE GREEN BOOK, a guide for African-American travelers during segregation.

Coach was uncomfortable, seats were hard. Everything that the narrator talked about, except for one, is no longer there. A lot of "there used to be"s and "the city knocked it down," The best part was Charley's Place, where many 50's and 60's famous music groups played. The actual venue wasn't there, but Charley's house was.

Charlie's Place is great and I'm glad that you enjoyed the visit. While we do pay homage to historic buildings that are no longer with us in order to give more perspective to our history, most of the tour is about what is here and what's coming in the future to preserve that history. The trolley on which the tour is given with its wooden benches adds to the charm of that story.

What a fun way to spend the morning. Very accommodating to my mom who was with us (91) with a walker. The driver helped her on and off and couldn’t have been nicer. The guide Kathryn was so knowledgeable about everything Myrtle beach! Love learning history of an area we are visiting and this was such a great way to learn all sorts of tidbits. We all highly recommend taking this tour. We will surely take one of the other 2 next time we are here. Even got a great book included! Thank you for everything

It was a treat to have you aboard. 91?! Your mom was more 19 than 91. Tell her I said so. I am so glad that you enjoyed our local history. I can't wait to share more with you when you return.
