Whitney Plantation
Whitney Plantation is on the National Register of Historic Places. The site includes the last surviving example of a true French Creole barn, what is believed to be the oldest detached kitchen in Louisiana, and the Big House, considered the earliest and best preserved raised Creole cottage in Louisiana - all built by slaves. With the original structures nestled in a working sugar cane field, visitors are sure to marvel at the authentic representation presented at Whitney. Through these restored buildings, museum exhibits, memorial artwork, and thousands of first-person slave narratives, Whitney Plantation gives a voice and respect to the slaves, who lived, worked, and died there.

The trip and tour were okay. It was a lovely day and the plantation was worth the visit. Our driver though was just a driver. There was no guide, no professional overview of the history. We simply listened to the radio on a van on the way to and from the plantation. We probably should have saved some money and rented a car.

This was a fabulous experience and our tour guide was knowledgeable as well as fun! The drive to the plantation was an hour and our driver gave us detailed information about the city as well as the various plantations we passed once we were in the vicinity of our destination. I would definitely recommend this small group experience over a larger tour company!

It was interesting to learn about the history and Edward the driver was very knowledgeable and great. The audio tour took just about an hour and a half to complete
