What To Expect

Whitney Plantation

Whitney Plantation is on the National Register of Historic Places. The site includes the last surviving example of a true French Creole barn, what is believed to be the oldest detached kitchen in Louisiana, and the Big House, considered the earliest and best preserved raised Creole cottage in Louisiana - all built by slaves. With the original structures nestled in a working sugar cane field, visitors are sure to marvel at the authentic representation presented at Whitney. Through these restored buildings, museum exhibits, memorial artwork, and thousands of first-person slave narratives, Whitney Plantation gives a voice and respect to the slaves, who lived, worked, and died there.

This tour was really awesome, no sugarcoating on slavery. You will get the truth and nothing but the truth on how the slaves was treated on Whitney Plantation. If you want the truth, please visit this plantation. I will recommend N’awlins Luxury Tours for round trip transportation. By the way we had a great tour guide/driver (Dion). She pointed out landmarks along the way, which made that one hour drive feel shorter.

Very interesting visit Amelie our guide on the plantation was able to captivate us through the history of the “Laura” family For the French, be careful to choose your transport and visit time carefully in order to benefit from a French guide, this was not the case for us, fortunately Amelie provided us with a booklet in French, my mother not having a perfect command of the language (I don't). more elsewhere)
