Kenai Fjords National Park
In Kenai Fjords National Park, over half of the landmass is covered by the enormous Harding Icefield, a thousand-foot block of ice that dates back to the last Ice Age. The Harding spills out in all directions in the form of glaciers. Some stretch northwest into rugged hills of the Kenai Peninsula. Others—five of them, to be exact—reach as far as the sea along the craggy coast of the Gulf of Alaska.

We went on the Tanaina with Capt Greg. His narration and knowledge was amazing. The entire crew was friendly and very accommodating. We saw a lot of wildlife on the cruise including bald eagles, humpback whales, orca (killer) whales, sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals, puffins, parakeets, and all kinds of birds. We view several glaciers with an up close view of Holgate Glacier. The lunch served on board is average. Th biggest complaint is that it doesn’t come with a brave so you end up having to purchase a beverage. The dinner at Fox Island was great. The fresh salmon and prime rib was great. There is an option to pay a little more and have crab legs also but we didn’t do that. The boat is very smooth and I didn’t notice anyone getting seasick. I highly recommend this cruise. Watch for sales throughout the year and you can save money. They always have a Black Friday sale for these trips.

We chose to do the all day cruise that included dinner on Fox Island. Could not have been a prettier day. If sitting outside on the bow is important to you, get there early, those spots went fast. We were fine on the inside. Sightings of marine life started early, we ended up seeing, sea otters, harbor seals, a pod of orcas (killer whales) Dalls porpoise, humpbacks & stellar sea lions. Then there were the birds, puffins, horned & tufted, guillemots, Rhinoceros auklets, & red faced cormorants. Just fabulous to see all these different creatures in one trip. And then there was the Aialik Glacier, absolutely awesome. The captain took us very close, so close that he joked some of us might be thinking the T word (Titanic) He also made sure everyone was satisfied with the length of time we stopped so everyone was happy with their picture taking. Lunch was good, in fact I liked it better than our Fox Island dinner, a chicken rollup with chips. If you wanted to there were several choices of dressings to add flavor if you wished. Also a fully stocked snack bar. It was a great day on the water! A highlight on my trip to Alaska. And just when you think things can't get any better. As you boarded from Fox Island, you were met with a still warm!! chocolate chip cookie. Loved it. Keep in mind if you are going to shop at the gift shop once back in Seward, if you show your ticket you get 20% off. Highly recommend this trip.

From beginning to end this tour was definitely a highlight of our visit to Alaska. The captain and crew were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. We saw sea otters, dolphins, humpback whales, puffins, bald eagles, sea lions and much more. Stopping in front of a glacier, the captain cut the engines so we could listen to the cracking and booms of the ice breaking away. The crew fished out a piece of glacier ice from the water so we could hold it. The dinner on Fox Island was very good and the naturalist was interesting as well. She rode to Seward with us and we were able to talk to her as we headed back. I highly recommend this experience.
