Awesome quilts displayed in a beautiful facility. The volunteer guides were available without being obtrusive and were very knowledgeable

I just don't understand this museum. I attended art school , I teach art, and I quilt. I know that this museum is focused on newer quilts, but it is more of a showcase on stitching prowess than design. Lots of corny themes and bold but unappealing designs are featured here. There is very little subtlety. This museum would do well to have a historic section, featuring Amish, Gee's Bend and other quilts to give people a background in American quilting. Does anyone want to see quilts from the 1980s? There is a difference between classic, novel, artistic and dated design work in all fields, including quilting.

The National Quilt Museum was founded in 1991 and, since that time, we have only collected quilts made after 1980 primarily by currently working quilters. Our mission is to honor today's quilters. Works from our collection, therefore, date back to the 1980s. We do offer changing exhibitions that feature earlier works on occasion, and exhibitions change regularly.

Beautiful art. So different and special. I appreciate all the work that goes into these pieces. The variety of quilts and wall hangings is amazing. And the display of children's art made it even more special.
