We've been looking forward to visiting this museum for years. Finally made it, and was worth the wait. The collection's scope is quilts made after 1980, most in the U.S. with other countries represented. We couldn't pick a favorite, as the artistic styles and craftsmanship were so impressive. An exhibit of 2' x 2' quilts from Australia was showing and interesting. Would have liked to see some Aboriginal ones, as those styles are dramatic. If visiting, plan to see the nearby Paducah history murals on the concrete barrier by the Ohio River.

The modern quilts in this museum are so beautiful and artistic. It was not what I was expecting. Not kitschy at all. We were so pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed our visit and seeing the amazing art done in fabric and stitching.

We are glad you enjoyed your visit. No, the National Quilt Museum is not kitschy. We are a contemporary art museum focused on preserving and promoting the finest work of contemporary quilters. Come back again soon. Exhibitions change regularly.

Museum implies some historical content. Nothing historical was in the museum. Only two quilts were hand quilted. Why do they get to call this a NATIONAL”? If you only like machine quilting with no organized piecing, then you might enjoy.

Honoring the work of today's contemporary quilters is central to our museum's mission, and our exhibitions tend to broadly reflect what is happening in the fiber arts field . The National Quilt Museum only collects quilts made after 1980, though we do exhibit antique quilts from time to time. There are many other institutions around the country where you can go to see antique quilts. A museum does not need to host vast amounts of historic content to be a museum. A museum is simply an institution that collects, preserves and exhibits objects. Our museum is a contemporary art museum focused on quilting and fiber arts. While quilting will always be rooted in folk and community traditions of decades and centuries past, the National Quilt Museum is focused on what is happening in the field today. And, we think the amazing work of today's quilters is diverse, exciting, and enriching.
