Incredible tour. The Church is so beautiful with such an incredibly rich history. The tour guide, Lee, covered the scope of this history incredibly well, providing both historical and contemporary context from the birth of this once cemetery turned Church to its role in cinema via Scorsese and Coppola. Extremely detailed and thoroughly enjoyable. Cannot recommend enough! Make sure to arrive early and enjoy the Church itself prior to the tour and be prepared to want to tip! Incredible!!!

The tour commentary had no discernible theme and was therefore rather unfocused for the average foreign visitor. Even though the guide started by asking where everyone on the tour had come from, the overly long, overly detailed and somewhat haphazard commentary delivered was difficult to relate to - many of the local historical figures referred to were generally unknown to those foreign visitors attending. The actual catacombs themselves were also rather a let down - I was expecting something dramatic like the catacombs in Rome or Paris, but they were really just a couple of tunnels with a number of sealed vault entrances lining the sides of the tunnels.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Catacombs by Candlelight tour in January 2025. Lee was our guide, and he was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. We learned a great deal about the church, neighborhood history, and catacombs. Lee was very attentive to the group and kept us moving while providing a wealth of information. We highly recommend.
