This tour was well organized and the guide was very knowledgeable. I enjoyed seeing the church inside and out, walking in the cemetery and checking out the catacombs. For my interest level, the history of this Catholic church and the people who led it went on longer than I would have liked. The catacombs were saved for the end of the tour and they were interesting to explore. Any disappointment on my part was due to unmet expectations that were likely unrealistic. Read the description carefully and if you are interested, you will be very pleased!

Our guide Don was extremely nice and knowledgeable with a great sense of humor. Our favorite part of the tour was outside in the cemetery and alongside the building listening to him tell us the story of the Basilica of St. Patricks and the history of the Irish and Italians and how it relates to the modern day church. The actual tour of the catacombs was rather anticlimactic. Battery candles line the floor and you are given a very small battery votive which we used to try and read what was written on each tomb. The tombs are really just names surrounded by a plaster frame on a long white plaster wall. Several in our group left shortly after entering the catacombs because there was really nothing to see...
