Our tour guide was great! However, we were given such a small tasting at each place that it really wasn't worth it. It would be better to go to fewer places, maybe three or four and get a little more food at each one. I am a small person and I don't eat a lot so it was ok. One tiny spoonful of gelato handed to us on the spoon was one of the stops! If you want to explore the city (Newport) and get some history I would recommend a trolley tour instead.

This tour balanced so many things beautifully - the types of food available in Newport, the distance between stops, and the ability to interact with tour-mates and hear the history of the place as we walked from stop to stop. We enjoyed it and were able to sample food we wouldn't have found on our own (or through any tourbook.) We will take part in such food tours whenever we travel to new places.

This was my first trip to Newport, RI and I highly recommend signing up for this food tour. Unfortunately, it rained that day of our tour, but rain or shine, the tour went on! Make sure you check the weather and bring an umbrella in case it rains. Our group was especially lucky as one of tour members was an umbrella salesman! The tour also stocks some plastic ponchos for those who need them. We had a bachelorette party in our group and they were not ready for the rain. Enough of the rain. The tour itself was ever enjoyable. Our tour guide was a local who was a foodie so she knew the area restaurants very well. We went to 7 food establishments and all were the "local" spots, and we didn't see many tourist, which was great and what we were interested in for a tour like this. Come hungry and you will leave full, despite not eating full portions of the menu offerings of each restaurant. The tour is definitively worth your time and money.
