Absolutely wonderful experience. Dedicated tour guide who knows the area and road well, I felt safe and comfortable driving with him. He was persistent in the search for lights and to my amazement we were successful even through the mucky weather. I think his name was Jake.

Jake is really good at not taking NO for an answer when it comes to Aurora-stalking. Glad you had a great time.

Jake was an amazing tour guide, and he did an incredible job finding the lights despite the cloudy conditions. The itinerary was good, but we felt it could’ve been improved. The itinerary started as it is described by being picked up from Fairbanks followed by a drive to Chena Springs. Once at the springs we first saw the ice museum, ate, soaked and then went to find the northern lights. Personally we wished we could’ve first soaked and then eaten in our own time or had drinks. We felt we had too much time in the springs and we would’ve liked to have had the opportunity to have drinks at the bar on our own after a good soak. The dinner was an option, but we did have to sit together with strangers in our group. We would’ve liked the option to sit on our own. The locker room showers were very dirty unfortunately, so plan ahead and bring flip flops as well as toiletries. Overall everyone at the springs and tours was welcoming and sweet. Would recommend the experience.

We're glad you enjoyed your tour. Yes, Jake is one of our stars! After years of experience, the recommended itinerary was in place in order to allow time for the very popular restaurant, without having to wait in line. However, our guide would have been happy to consider other options. We will pass along your other suggestions to CHS. Glad you would recommend us to others.

DO NOT GO ON THIS TOUR. The whole tour was a waste on money. It’s literally 15 dollars to enter the hot springs and the ice museum. The tour guide walked us around for 30 minutes showing us ducks and mint leaves. We got there so late that all the extra activities were already closed. The ice museum lets you sleep overnight but we couldn’t do that because the tour guide insisted on picking us up instead of letting us drive to the hot springs on our own. When it was time to see the northern lights the tour guide wouldn’t take any pictures of me an my girlfriend and said she couldn’t send them to us but she literally took photos on her camera the whole time. She literally drove us AWAY FROM THE NORTHERN LIGHTS!!! She said she had favorite spots to see them but you couldn’t see them at all. We got the bet view from down the street of the hot springs. Don’t waste your time with this tour. You can save a lot of money and probably get better views of the northern lights on your own.

Sorry your experience was not the best. However, others on the same tour gave us 5 stars. The Aurora is in the sky. Hence, you're right, all you have to do is look up. But, most people enjoy the comfort and convenience of a great location with creature comforts and activities. We should also point out that your expectations were not based in fact -- all activities were explained on our website. For example, an evening tour will not include daytime-only activities. Did you not receive the photos taken by the photographer? The guide arranged for superior, not sub-standard photos just for you. Let us know, and we will ensure you receive them.
