We could not really see the Northern Lights on our trip. Just a little haze through the clouds, even though we were there for hours until 3am. I recommend that if you want to see them, you should go to Denali and stay there for a few days instead of Fairbanks as Fairbanks is a really small town and has nothing to do. We were not offered any sort of refund either after asking. I know that it is not their fault as it was due to weather but it was not what I expected. At least we know now and will be going to Denali next time as we can even go hiking there.

The Aurora is a combination of several factors -- all natural and all beyond our ability to control or predict with 100% accuracy. Have you ever noticed how often a weather forecast is 100% reliable?
Aurora bottom line: There is no perfect place, no perfect dates, and no experts.
However, there are those occasions (in the far northern and southern latitudes) where the weather is kind, the solar radiation is optimal, and the phase of the moon cooperates -- these are worth waiting for and worth every effort!
Hope you are more successful on your next attempt.
Alaska will be waiting for you.
