NYC Underground Subway Walking Tour

Overview
Explore the world’s largest subway system, the beating heart of the city that never sleeps.

- See the architectural ghosts of the nearly forgotten and partially abandoned, Chambers Street station nicknamed the “Grand Central of Downtown”
- Discover the remnants of Union Square Station as you learn about a hidden art installation thousands of riders walk by everyday
- Use the 6 train as your own time machine as you ride through abandoned subway stations that most seasoned NYC commuters don’t know exist
- Explore the birth of the NYC subway system through amazing archival photos not available to the public
- Learn about the comically short route of the mythical “Subway before the Subway,” Alfred Ely Beach’s Pneumatic Transit System

Guests will need one MetroCard swipe or OMNY tap to enter the subway.

Please note that although you will see abandoned subway stations from the train, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) doesn't grant public access into them under any circumstances.

We took this tour with AJ and had a great time! AJ has an encyclopedic knowledge of the transit system and its history down to the smallest detail. This is a great tour for anyone but especially transit lovers.

My family and I had such a good time on this tour. He was engaging and very informative. My usually hard to please teens thought it was cool.

The guide was very knowledgeable shame the tour was in very noisy places and we could barely hear him. The one earphone provided had very poor sound quality and his voice was coming through intermittently.

Hello and I apologize that you were disappointed in the sound quality during the tour. I did speak to your guide and he said that there was a few minutes where he didn't realize his mic wire jack had come disconnected but it was only for a short period of time. Also in purchasing a tour of the subway system there has to be a certain expectation of noise down in the system. It is one of the reasons we provide the listening system. We do feel we do the best we can and as you can see from other reviews of this tour others agree. Thank you for sharing your feedback and be well!
