I chose Outer Island Excursions for whale watching off Orcas. They really know what theyā€™re doing: small fast boats, lots of chances to interact with the very informative naturalist (go Katie!) and a knowledgeable captain (Paul!) who kept in communication with all the other boats to get us where the whales were. We followed a four-pod of Orcas for about ninety minutes and got to see them hunt (and dine). Spent a lot of time with a showoffy humpback. All in all, an extraordinary day.

When we boarded our whale watching vessel we sat outside with our 5 and 6 year old children. I asked twice about life jackets for the kids, and both times my question was met with almost confusion, telling me they had life jackets in case of an emergency and "no one ever falls off". Another mother was asking for life jackets too and told the same thing... UMmm...Growing up boating, I know that kids should ALWAYS wear life jackets on a boat that is underway, ESPECIALLY when outside of the cabin. Sure enough, I'm pretty sure it is a coast guard requirement for all kids under 13 to wait life jackets when outside in an underway vessel. These operators' lack of concern or knowledge about safety requirements was kind of concerning to me. I would not recommend these charters to familyies with kids due to safety concerns.

Drew, Beth, and Dawn were incredible guides for yesterday's whale watching. They were incredibly informative and chock full of facts and info on the whales. We got to see 3 different families of Orcas meet up for a "party" which was a once in a lifetime opportunity! We also saw a few Minke whales as well as some huge Stellar sea lions! Highly recommend this company and this crew. Thanks guys!
