Entire experience exceeded expectations. We purchased a groupon for a group of 5 to go out on the Orcas Island/Deer Harbour whale watching tour. Captain and crew were very laid back and knowledgeable - kind of guy you'd want to get a beer with. Scenery was absolutely stunning as we headed out on the Sound. It was our lucky day because as soon as we hit the water, captain got a call in that a pod of orcas was 20 min away. We made our way to the sighting with Mt Baker in the background. Ended up watching a pod of orcas hunt harbor seals followed by plenty of breaching, tail slaps, and leaps for the next two hours. The crew even gave us an extra 30 minutes on the water. Would highly recommend Outer Island Expeditions for any wildlife watching adventure.

We did the afternoon, private tour option, which was great! It was just the two of us and a captain/guide on a 26 foot boat. We really lucked out because I don't think the morning group trip saw whales. Another boat in the area had reported seeing orcas from the Jpod. It was maybe a 10-15 minute ride to the location and we spent a good 1 1/2 hours following maybe 6 orcas from the pod. We got great new pictures on a new camera, which the captain/guide Andrew was able to help with since he is an avid photographer as well. For the final hour of the tour, we did a little bit of island hopping and seal sighting. What a wonderful day with the weather and the beauty of the San Juan Islands. We could even see downtown Vancouver off in the distance.
