Whale watching- We had an amazing day with Bryce and Krista. We saw humpbacks and Followed the Orcas for a long time, even into Canada. We also saw seals, eagle and porpoise. Our guides were extremely knowledgable and the boat was fast, dry and safe. Bring cash for a tip and snacks. They provided warm jackets. Our island vacation wouldn't have been the same without this excursion. Kayaking- Our guide Jason went a nice pace and pointed out sea stars, jelly fish, harbor seal pups and eagles. Was a nice slow paced adventure that gave us another perspective of island life.

When I signed up for the Outer Island Expedition it said nothing about an hour power boat ride where no one told you anything. I am use to whale watching expeditions where the captain or the guide had some type of speaker system and did some talking as you drove out to the whale watching area. Maybe explained wildlife or the area pointed out things as are speedboat travel out. Then when we spotted some orcas we seemed to drift away as other boats got closer to the whales. On the way back the guide was somewhat better but a speaker system is needed for all to hear. I think the captain said 2 words hello and goodbye. Then at the end the guide said if you like to leave a tip great! What has happen to a good job done gets you a good tip?

We were back for our third time in four years to go whale watching with Outer Island because they are THAT good! This time we did the evening cruise and headed up into Canadian waters to follow about half of J-pod. They were catching salmon and having a great time! One came right up to the boat, swam underneath and jumped right up out of the water on the other side! Amazing sight! There were several children on this particular cruise and they were so excited to see the whales swim so close to our boat. Captain Bryce on Blackfish 3 was very knowledgeable and happy to answer every single question, as was Krista our naturalist. The cruise up and back was so pleasant, and the sunset made for some beautiful photos. Snacks and water are available on board, and you can bring a picnic if you like. This is a great activity for all ages. There are warm inside seats or outside seats where you will experience the wind and weather so dress warmly if you want to be out there. We will definitely be back again, and have recommended Outer Island to our friends coming up to Orcas Island. They really go out of their way to make the trip memorable and fun for everyone.
