BUYER BEWARE!!! If I could give "0" rating or negative rating for their customer service; I would!!!! Don't get me wrong, I like to support local businesses; but outer island expedition is NOT one of them. I hate writing bad reviews but this had to be done. I unfortunately called to make reservations for a whale watching tour. First, they upsold me on the 5pm cruise stating that "you want to avoid all the other boats that are out there during the miday 1pm trip". I found out later they just wanted to fill empty spots. Second, they never informed me of the 72 hour cancellation policy via phone. And when I tried to cancel due to ferry scheduling 2 days prior, they were only willing to give us a rescheduling option or trying to sell my tickets to another customer BUT no money back; after, discussing rather heatedly with the person, who first took my reservations; whom finally admitted that he never disclosed any of the cancellation policy; they offered to discuss with their supervisor about an"exception." An "exception" is not even a refund! It's 75% return. They keep 25% for allowing us to cancel! For a trip that's $350, that's $87.50 charge! We had to call 3 times to find out the status of our exception and if they could sell our tickets. With no luck on a full refund, we decided to risk going back on the ferry via stand by and went whale watching. While waiting in line, they sold tickets to 2 standby passengers! What! Those were people who could've bought our tickets for a refund. They over sold the boat ride; and on the way back, they had to dock at a different harbor due to impending low tide next day and had to shuttle us back on their shuttle. 4 people were left behind to take a cab! 4 people who they could've sold our tickets to which they didn't. If you want to watch whales go somewhere else. They are all the same. The captain/drivers all talk to each other if they spot orcas. I would never recommend this company to any of my friends. There are so many other more customer friendly companies that I would give my money to; BUYERS BEWARE!!!!

We had an amazing experience whale watching with Outer Island Expeditions. Captain Paul got us right out to where we would see the orcas. We had lots of time with them and even had them swim right up to our boat. Michelle was a wealth of information and we learned so much from her about the islands and wildlife. We were also able to see seals, sea lions, eagles, and had a great view of the islands from our boat. This is an experience you do not want to miss when visiting the islands!

Outer Island Expeditions was great! We knew there was a chance we would see no whales. There unfortunately were no Orcas. But after sometime we ran into Hump Backs. In total we must have seen 10 whales. Something we did not expect and it even surprised the crew was a Sea Lion devour a giant sting ray right beside our boat. Since the can not swallow large objects, the Sea Lion would bite into the ray then thrash around as to tear chucks off. Yes it may have been violent but it was nature and it was an amazing watch. We later witness this again. This time it was a Sea Lion eating a Haddock. We had a wonderful and knowledgeable crew!
