We went on the afternoon whale watching tour from Eastsound and had a wonderful time. The staff were funny, kind, helpful and incredibly knowledgeable. Their boat is comfortable and warm (heated even, though we didn't need that). I can get seasick, but not on this smooth boat. We saw all three kinds of orcas that live around the San Juan Islands, because this boat is faster than the rest and can jump between the locations. We learned so much, and while we aren't often people to go watch wildlife, we had a great time!

We really enjoyed our time with Outer Island Expeditions. The boat takes a max of 12 people per trip so our boat was much less crowded than many of the other whale watching boats we had seen in the area. It was also very comfortable and fast; the indoor heated cabin was very nice for the trip out and back since it can get quite cold with the wind chill while under way. Our captain Matt was very informative and taught us a lot about the orcas, the other wildlife in the area, and the San Juan islands themselves. He was in constant communication with other boats to make sure that he was going the best route to see the orcas and always kept us informed about what the plan was. When we arrived at the location, we were lucky enough to see part of the resident J-pod orcas, who were porpoising all around us, they are magnificent creatures! Highly recommended!

We had an amazing whale sight seeing trip with Captain Joe and naturalist/deck hand Demi (names aren't my strong suit soĀ please forgive me if I'm confused with the names) . Before we even left the dock the enthusiasmand genuine desire for us to have an amazing experienceĀ set the stage for what was destined to be nothing short of magical. At no point did we ever feel rushed, our captain was amazing. On one hand he acted like we had booked a private charter and our group was the only group that mattered. On the other hand he treated us like family he was showing around these amazing waters. Joe and Demi's excitementĀ and love for what they are doing was evident and contagious. As we found our first pod of whales, Captain Joe made sure to position the boat for the best possible viewing. Demi was able to share details from the naturalistĀ perspective but always waited for the right time so it didn't interfereĀ with our enjoyment of the amazing natural beauty we were watching. Captain Joe then took us to view some rock formations, to see eagles and their nests, seals and even some goats on various islands. Our second viewing of whales proved to be even more exciting than the first. Captain Joe knew the whales would play in the wake of a large ship that passed so he positionedĀ us to see the whales actually jumping, doing somersaults and playing all around us. Our whale watching trip was the highlight of an amazing trip to Orcas Island. Thank you Captain Joe, Demi and Outer Island Expeditions for a memory we will cherish FOREVER!!!!
