What To Expect
1
Baerlic Brewing Company
This is a sample itinerary, all schedules are subject to change. Longtime partners in crime, Baerlic Brewing owners Ben and Rik attended high school together, and have been homebrewing together for the better part of a decade. The boys recently made the leap to owning and running a professional brewery, and that leap of faith has more than paid off, as Ben and Rick are now known for making some of the best and most innovative beers in town. Ben is one of the best graphic artists in town and created all of Baerlic’s swag. Rik also happens to be one of the best bike mechanics in town, and utilizes his mechanical skills in the brewhouse, including an event which allowed taproom guests were able to hop on a bike and mill grain just by pedaling!

Upright Brewery
Upright Brewing specializes in farmhouse inspired beers rooted in France and Belgium, but made with a Pacific Northwest twist, dabbling in both classic and quirky projects from around the world. The name references the primary instrument of Charles Mingus, a musician whose compositions, like Upright’s brews, defy categorization. At Upright, the recipes and processes are decidedly unbound, making for true hybrid styles that share Mingus’ spirit of exercising creativity and craft.

We found ample free street parking within a couple blocks of Growler Guys and had a good lunch at the Mexican place next door. Our guide, Tom, picked us up on time and entertained us as we visited four locations. Along the way we learned why Portland is the craft brewing capital of the world and sampled several different types of beer. Tom made sure we stayed on schedule and shared interesting information about the neighborhoods we drove through.

We visited Portland in June, 2018 on some of what were probably the hottest days of the year and I'm so glad we ended up booking a tour with Brewvana! We drink a lot of beer and love exploring craft breweries in any city we visit, so I was a little wary of the price since we've already been on a lot of brewery tours. Even with a lot of previous knowledge of craft beers, this tour was great. Ben the tour guide was really knowledgeable about the history of Portland's craft beer scene and gave the tour some local color. We got lucky and our tour was only 4 people, which made it feel extra special. All the breweries we visited had something unique to offer in terms of location, type-flavor-style of beer, and/or brewer. You'll drink a *lot* of beer, so definitely eat before-hand! This is a great way to get out and see a bit of the city and learn about the craft beer industry in Portland. (The one tiny disappointment was that there wasn't really any history of Portland the city, outside of Beer history. I only mention it because I think that's in the website's description of the tour. If you want to learn about the city, don't be shy and ask! the tour was so great in every other regard, and I'm sure Ben *would* have told us about the city had we asked, but we were asking so many other questions about the beer at the time!)

Our guide Kelene did a great job of getting us to great breweries, picking tasty brews, sharing her knowledge of beer and the brewing process, and fostering a fun environment. Thanks Kelene!
