My husband and I live in Palm Springs and decided to take this windmill tour in order to see if we would recommend it to our winter visitors. We definitely recommend it. We arrived at the tour spot (literally in the middle of hundreds of wind powered instruments) and were warmly welcomed on a unusually wet afternoon. We were shown a 15 minute video of wind power in order to understand what we would be seeing on our tour. Our tour guide, Randy, was knowledgeable, professional and humorous. He answered our questions prior to and during our tour. Due to the unusually heavy rain, we toured the nearby outside area by bus (instead of on foot) and then we began our 1.5 hour bus tour around the various windmill farms. We never realized how extensive these farms are nor how many different types of these energy producing instruments are being used. Randy discussed the successes and failures of various windmill types as well and the future of this green technology. At the conclusion of the tour we were treated with probably the best date shakes in the valley. This is a great excursion for adults, seniors and teenagers, but probably not for little kids. Definitely worth a visit, but try to do it on a dry day, which is the case most of the year.

We were in Palm Springs last year and ran out of time to do this tour so we made it a priority this year and we were not disappointed! Very interesting and very informative. The bus was comfortable and the stops for photos were great! I recommend this tour if you are curious about the windmills.

We've been meaning to go on this tour for years. We finally took some visiting friends. It was interesting from the time we sat and watched the video and listened to the short lecture. Learning about some of the previous design failures and successes was also interesting. Once we were on the tour bus it got even more interesting. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the windmills and the various plants/trees in the area. His major in college was Biology! The windmills look 'not too big' from the freeway, but once you get up close, they are massive. When they give you the statistics on how high the towers are and how long the blades are, it's unbelievable. They also bring the point home by telling you that a 747 airplane can fit within the space of two of the blades! I asked why the tallest towers here are only 262 feet when the introductory video had towers that were over 350 feet? He said that the FAA has a restriction of 500 feet maximum of any structure in the flight path of the Palm Springs Airport.
