Took this tour for a second time, bringing a friend who hadn't been here the first time. The tour is a great explanation of the history of wind power and the details of the large wind and solar farms that are just outside of Palm Springs. The bus part of the tour takes you close-up to some the windmills to give you a personal sense of the scale of some of these machines. It is only a tiny bit geeky and you get a great date milkshake along the way.

We visited the Wright Windmill Farms on a Sunday, and were treated to an amazing tour of the wind (and solar) farms in the northern Palm Springs area, including a comprehensive history of the successes--and failures--in technological accomplishments that led to the current design. Lyle (our guide) was knowledgeable, interesting, and informative, and made the tour an experience to remember. The next time we drive past the windmill farms on either side of Highway 10, we will know the story behind those spinning turbines, and appreciate the clean energy being created for Southern California.

This tour provides some history on wind power in the Palm Springs area, going over some of the early iterations of the turbines to the latest one. This is followed by a bus tour to several windmill sites and a stop at the biggest one in the area. Also included is a stop at the Windmill market (I believe that is what it is called) to taste the date shakes, which are excellent. Overall a great tour, even if a touch on the pricey side.
