I usually don't write bad reviews but would hate for someone to go on this excursion without being informed. Our experience started off horrible from the point of boarding the bus to get to Mendenhall Glacier. There were not enough buses to accommodate the amount of people who purchased tickets so we waited, a long while, for additional buses to arrive. I do have to give serious props to our driver Lucy, she made everyone almost forget about the aggravation of the delay. She was amazing and told some really great stories about the history and fun facts of Juneau. In my opinion, she was the highlight of the entire tour. The delay with the buses shortened the length of time spent at Mendenhall Glacier even more than the normal limited time they give you there. I literally had time to walk to the Glacier to take a few photos and my Mom used the ladies room and it was time to get back on the bus. There was absolutely no time to walk a trail, go by the waterfall or visit their gift shop. The Whale watching tour was okay, they obviously cannot control when a whale is going to surface and we were fortunate enough to see some whales at a far distance breech the water. The whale activity we had seen from the balcony on our cruise ship was at a better vantage point making what we saw on the tour a little underwhelming to say the least. The staff on board the boat were very knowledgeable and sweet, can't say enough good things about them. Again, due to the delay in the beginning with the bus, which was over an hour, it had a domino effect for the remainder of the day. We should have been back in Juneau by 6:30pm, we didn't get back into town until almost 8:30. It limited our time spent in town which was very frustrating for the money the tour cost and how disappointing it was. Know what to expect before booking.

We scheduled the whale tour in the morning and the glacier after that. This gave us plenty of time in the afternoon to make our way back into town, via the bus, to get back on our ship. So part one was the whales. The boat is configured for whale watching, can't beat it. The crew is very knowledgeable about whales, can't beat them either. Part two, the Mendenhall Glacier. Once you are out there the facilities are pretty nice. I highly recommend the 1 mile trail out to Nugget Falls. It's mostly shaded and a hard pack trail.
