The Amish Farm and House
Sit back, relax and let us take you through the real Amish country backroads. Your driver-guide will drive 25 miles into countryside not easily found on our own. From the window, youā€™ll see Amish homes, schools and farms. Depending on the season you might see Amish working in their fields, children riding on scooters and horse & buggies traveling to and from. Your driver-guide will be narrating as you see the Amish going about their everyday life. Youā€™ll learn about agriculture, farming techniques, weddings, family traditions and how they live in our ā€˜modern worldā€™. Itā€™s not just all on the bus; we make two stops at Amish farms where youā€™ll get to interact with the Amish folks. Youā€™ll have the opportunity to purchase goods made from the very hands who made them! (not on Sundays)

A bit disappointing on approach in that it is shoe-horned right next to a Target store. BUT, very much worth a visit. Behind the house the farm area is large and very interesting. I wish I would have known the lay out before going. If I had we would have arrived sooner to have more time to walk around the farm. The house tour was interesting but, for me, a bit long, lasting about an hour. The bus tour is advertised at 90 minutes but this includes two 15 minute stops at Amish stores. Not a deal breaker but be aware of this before hand. All this said, I would like to go another time to be able to spend more time walking around the farm.

Do not be deceived by the Target. It is indicative of the community today and many Amish families frequent it. The farm dates back to 1715 and is an authentic historic farm. With a variety of educational tours, there is something for every age, and interest level. The farm is included in all tour options, so come early, or stay late!

This wasn't really what I expected. We did the Premium Tour which included the bus tour and a tour of the Amish Farmhouse. The bus driver provided a lot of information about the Amish culture and lifestyle while we were driving, but it also had stops at two farmhouses where we were expected to shop for Amish goods. The first one, Country Lane Quilts in Leola, had mostly quilted goods and Ms. Stoltzfus was very personable. The second one had a wide array of goods made by numerous families. Although I enjoyed looking at the goods, I don't appreciate being "steered" to merchants while on tours. The tour of the Amish Farmhouse was also interesting. When it starts, the group gathers in the living room. We have some opportunity to ask questions during the tour itself, but the tour just abruptly ends at the top of the stairs on the second floor. It would be nice if there was a gathering place (such as the living room or perhaps an enclosed porch outside) at the end of the tour so people could have an extended amount of time to ask questions. I left with perhaps more questions about the Amish than when I started.

It sounds like you went to a different establishment. Our tours are abouit 45 minutes long and there is ample time for questions. If you'd like more information, we offer a wide assortment of books on the subject in our gift shop. Check out books by author Steven Nolt or Donald Kraybill. If you're in the area, come see us here at The Amish Farm and House for one of our tours.

Tour guides were friendly, courteous, and very knowledgeable. The tour itself was a comprehensive overview of the Amish way of life and was well worth the time and money for the tour.. Both the farm tour and the bus trip through the countryside were excellent.
