Private Buckskin Gulch Tour

Overview

There are as many metaphors to describe what locals call 'down in the Buckskin' as there are people who have been there. I choose the word 'in' because you are literally inside the walls of the world's longest slot canyon.

According to the Bureau of Land Management ('BLM') website, Buckskin Gulch is 16 miles long (around 26 km) from the Buckskin Trailhead to the Paria Canyon and over 500 feet (around 150m) deep at its confluence with the Paria River. There are places in the Buckskin where you are able to touch both canyon walls at the same time.

Buckskin Gulch is a photographer's and hiker's Mecca. Every corner you turn is changing continuously; the cliffs are water-and-wind-sculpted patterns of colors, light and shadows. You may also marvel and puzzle at the meanings of the rock writings (petroglyphs) from the early Archaic period (some are as old as 9,000 years).

It was voted one the top 10 hikes in the world by National Geographic Adventure Magazine a few years back.

Fantastic day led by Jeff. This area offered great slot canyons with huge side walls, red and black rock, and fun walks in and out of the canyons. Then, we ended up on a side way of slick rock that had the yellow and pink and white stripes with views of snow capped mountains. Just fantastic. Jeff with very knowledgeable and helpful and friendly. Could not have asked for a better experience. Thanks Jeff!

This was the highlight of our hiking vacation. Jeff Frost was an amazing tour guide. He challenged us and encouraged us to test our limits which was empowering and exhilarating! We loved hearing his stories of growing up in the area. We didn't see anyone else for the first 4 hours and Buckskin Gulch was magnificent! We highly recommend Jeff and this tour!

Our guide Yermo was fantastic! Extremely knowledgeable about the area and pointed out many interesting details that we would have surely missed on our own. His calm, detailed instructions got us down (and up) a 100+ foot cliff safely so that we could enjoy the incredible beauty of this slot canyon. My 17 year old son and I had a perfect day!
