My husband and I had a fantastic time with Tom this past Saturday on a custom private tour. I planned a weekend in DC as a surprise birthday getaway for my husband, who lived in DC for a summer so had already done most of the major tourists stops many times over, and who is a huge history (and particularly military history) buff. Tom worked closely with me to create the perfect itinerary and patiently answered all of my questions prior to booking. The day itself was seamless - Tom arrived promptly to pick us up at our hotel and drove us around in his comfortable SUV, equipped with bottled water. We visited some excellent sites that I would never have thought to check out without Tom's recommendation, including the Navy Yard and the fascinating Navy Museum, and the Caisson Platoon Barn at Fort Myer. Both of these were really remarkable and worthwhile visits - and we had them nearly all to ourselves on a busy Saturday during cherry blossom season! The tour also included lunch at the Army Navy Country Club, which was lovely. In the afternoon, we visited the Anderson House, home of the Society of the Cincinnati, which was a beautiful home, but unfortunately the docent giving the guided tour there was not terribly good - I would have preferred Tom to give the tour himself! Tom even drove us over to the National Building Museum so we could pick up our bibs for the following day's Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, and dropped us back at our hotel at the end of the day. I'm so glad that we booked this tour - it was certainly a highlight of our weekend and, though not inexpensive, was worth every penny. Tom was extraordinarily knowledgeable, personable and clearly loves what he does. I would not hesitate to recommend DC Military Tours to anyone visiting the area!
