Private Hike to Jungle Tide Pools

Overview
This tide pool is a local secret. It's off the beaten path. A miracle of nature. We'll use a jungle/lava rock coastal trail. Each way takes 30-40 min (1/2 mile) (10 minutes in jungle, 20-30 minutes on coast). Only your group will participate. I'll teach you about the pool's ecosystem and the local environment. You'll also have time to explore/relax privately.

- Elevation gain on the hike offers amazing coastal views. Sea turtles are a common sight in the distance.
- The pool is like an infinity pool overlooking cliffs. The water is crystal clear. It's highly likely you'll be alone because this spot is so unknown.
- The pool is like an an aquarium with fish, hermit crabs, rock crabs, sea cucumbers, shrimp, snails, spaghetti worms, pink coralline algae, seaweed, shells, & cool rocks.
- Waves strike cliffs and shoot water in the air like a blowhole (conditions permitting). A once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity.
- The pool is calm/safe with a deep (4-7 ft.) & shallow (1-4 ft.) area.

This was such a terrific adventure for our family (2 adults and 2 12-year-olds). Josh was super-accommodating of our long drive to get to him, and we were grateful that he was willing to adjust the time that we set out. As we followed his car into the jungle, we wondered what was in store for us ... and it was better than we had even imagined. The hike into the tidepools is not long or hard, but it does go across a stretch of lava rock and requires decent shoes (don't be fooled by Josh's Crocs and bare feet!). When we arrived at the pools, Josh let us take our time as we swam in the perfect water, checking out the sea-life below us and the incredible rocks around us. When we we were ready, he gave us a "tour" of the area, which included climbing on some rocks that were rather challenging, partly because they were slippery, partly because there were waves crashing around us, and partly because we were scared in that adrenaline-rush, happy way. It was amazing to be on rock formations at the edge of the ocean (we'd never seen so many shades of blue!), but this was not a "tour" for people who aren't comfortable in some challenging climbing situations ... that said, it would be no hardship to have non-climbers stay behind in the glorious pools! We all came away from our afternoon with Josh feeling as though we were in on a wonderful secret, and that we had a truly special experience. And the fruit stand at the end was fantastic, too - the avocadoes were insanely good!

Beautiful walk through a jungle like forest to the tide pools. Josh was an amazing guide and went with the flow as we wanted more of an experience versus swimming around in the tide pools. We climbed lava rock and went as far out as we could safely. Must know that this is a strenuous walk along uneven lava rock. Swim shoes is a must. No flip flops or open toe shoes. Bring your swimming gear and get ready to hike and climb along the lava rock. Once our hike was done Josh took us to a local fruit stand with some local fruit to purchase and then guided us to town past the 2018 flow. Great experience! Great guide!
