Mount Rushmore is more than just the carvings. They have secrets that are not easily revealed. GeoFunTrek's guides are local experts with decades of experience. We have no seasonal guides, part-time guides or trainees. This is a family-owned business and all tours are conducted by family members: Cindy, Christopher and John Esposti. We have the knowledge and skills to make your day one to remember. You will always get the A-team when you tour with GeoFunTrek Tours!
All tours are PRIVATE TOURS, exclusive to the group booking the tour, and no additional guests will be included. Children must be accompanied by one adult. Children 3 years and younger are free and will have their own seat. Children's car seats must be supplied by family members when required. Our largest vehicle, a Sprinter van seats 9, and a larger vehicle may be rented or we can add a Honda Pilot for larger groups. This is a great tour for 3-generation families with Children, multiple couples and groups of friends.

GEOFUNTREK TOURS SAFETY UPDATE COVID-19 Your comfort and safety are our primary concern. Take a private tour, limited to your group only and enjoy the day. We have only three guides: John, Chris & Cindy. They are family members from the same household. They constantly monitor each other’s health. So even when not at work “THE BOSS” is always watching.
We do not have vehicles with a wheelchair lift. We can accommodate a folding wheechair and the guest must be able to enter and exit the vehicle on their own. We will gladly assist with any needed assistance and pushing.

What To Expect

Mount Rushmore National Memorial

You will enjoy a personalized guided tour of the Shrine of Democracy with a local expert. Visit the Sculptor's Studio, Presidential Trail and Visitor Center.

Crazy Horse Memorial

Experience a personalize tour with your own local expert and learn the history of the warrior and memorial.

Custer State Park

Drive through the 71,000 acre park making frequent stop at the sites of your choosing. Take short hikes and visit the lodges or visitor facilities of your choice. Areas included are the Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road and the Wildlife Loop Road.

Cindy was great. It was like being with a friend who knew everything about all the places!! We learned so much from her and saw things we would have never known to look for. I recommend this to everyone who wants a special day!

Our family of four had an absolutely phenomenal experience with GeoFunTrek, booked through Viator. Our guide, Chris, was exceptional - his deep local knowledge and personal stories brought the Black Hills to life. The tour was perfectly paced and full of highlights: • The Doane Robinson Tunnel. When we exited the vehicle and looked through the tunnel, it perfectly framed Mount Rushmore. It was a fantastic picture taking opportunity! • Up-close encounters with wildlife (bison herd, pronghorn, burros, whitetail deer). The herd of several hundred bison was right next to the roadway and we had to stop to let them cross the road. There were also 20 or so wild burros in the same section and they also were right next to the road, making for a great video opportunity. The pronghorn antelope we saw at another point in the tour were a bit further away but still within excellent picture taking range. • Climbing the stairs and exploring Mount Rushmore. This was the highlight of our trip! Chris provided us with a tremendous amount of historical information and super interesting stories. We traversed the wooden walkway and stairs in front (and below) the sculptures, where we could seed the phenomenal detail and craftsmanship of the work. • Crazy Horse Monument. The story and monument of Crazy Horse was impressive. This monument is taller than Mount Rushmore but will not be fully completed for many years to come. The view of this sculpture from the pavilion is the profile of Crazy Horse and there is a separate tour by a different company needed to get close and see a frontal view of the sculpture. • Breathtaking views at Needles Highway. The drive down this highway had breathtaking scenery! We also saw the lake the was used in National Treasure 2 that was claimed to be at the top of Mount Rushmore. Chris's expertise shone through as he navigated us to the best viewpoints and shared fascinating historical insights. He even recommended a great lunch spot at Custer State Lodge. GeoFunTrek's attention to detail was impressive - from prompt pickup at our campsite to providing snacks and water throughout the day. We had ample time to soak in the sights and browse souvenir shops. If you want a personalized, in-depth tour of the Black Hills that goes beyond the typical tourist experience, look no further than GeoFunTrek. It's clear why this family-owned business comes so highly recommended. An unforgettable day that exceeded all expectations!
