Railbikes along Pudding Creek

Overview
Pedaling along our historic tracks, bathed in dappled sunlight and a light breeze, you’ll experience a new freedom on the rails, unlike anything else. Without the need to steer, you’re unbound, able to look around at the wonder of this untouched stretch of the natural world, spotting blue herons, osprey, an occasional lounging turtle, perhaps a playful river otter, a deer munching on the foliage, and during peak berry season maybe even a bear.

We had a wonderful time. Johnny, our tour guide, was phenomenal. His knowledge of the area and the history of the train line made it even more enjoyable. Loved the railbikes, easy to do. And we had a nice hike in the woods with Johnny.

Great way to pedal ( not very difficult for us seniors) through the beautiful landscape filled with Redwood trees. Great guides too!

Our guide Johnny, or was it Bob ( just kidding, it was Johnny) was great. His directions for operating the rail bike were very clear and he emphasized what we needed to do to be safe on our excursion. The trip was wonderful being so close to the Redwoods at a slower pace than we would have experienced on the Skunk train. Johnny stopped at one point to show us a stump, explained how it could be used to house animals, why it was so tall and what the notches near the top were used for. On a previous visit, we had ridden the Skunk Train and had a good time. When we heard about the rail bikes it sounded like a unique experience, we weren’t disappointed. Don’t be intimidated by the thought of pedaling the entire time. The bikes are equipped with an electric motor that gives assistance or will propel the bike by itself. If you visit Ft Bragg I heartily recommend taking a rail bike trip, you won’t regret it
