Road to Hana Day Trip

Overview
The Hāna Highway is a 64.4-mile long stretch of spectacular views of rainforest, waterfalls, beaches and coastline. On the east after Kalepa Bridge, the highway continues to Kīpahulu on the Piilani Highway. Although Hāna is only about 52 miles from Kahului, it takes about 2.5 hours to drive when no stops are made as the highway is very winding and narrow and passes over 59 bridges, 46 of which are only one lane wide. There are approximately 620 curves along Route 360 from just east of Kahului to Hāna, virtually all of it through lush, tropical rainforest. Many of the concrete and steel bridges date back to 1910 and all but one are still in use. This full-day trip to the Hana coast has the best scenic drive along the shorelines of Maui.

The Keanae overlook and peninsula offer views of one of the largest taro farms in Hawaii.

Our tour guide David was knowledgeable but next time would consider booking with another company. The van we were taken in was packed - 15 people including the driver. The tour started late and then was further delayed due to construction - not certain why the company didn't provide this information to the driver ahead of time. My husband and I did not get to sit together for this 12 hour tour. The van was very hot and the vents were not working properly initially so it was uncomfortable. When those of us sitting in the back asked the driver to turn up the A/C he indicated it was on full even though we could see for ourselves that it was not. Most of the sites could be viewed on the left side of the van so those seated on the right could hardly see anything. There was hardly any room for the food that was provided. Breakfast was served inside the van in a local neighborhood than 90 minutes later we were served lunch. No snacks were provided - except for those served with lunch and only 1 bottle of water was provided to each guest. If you're looking to save money this tour was definitely the cheapest - but you definitely get what you pay for. Next time I would spend the extra money and book with another company.

The vehicle that is used is only 7 month old bus. I don't know what happened on that day, but took it in for service at the dealer. They couldn't find any problems. We do stock the bus with about 50 bottle of water and 20 - 30 bags of chips for everyone to enjoy. If you asked about some snack tour guide is told to give to guest on the tour.
