Road to Hana Day Trip

Overview
The Hāna Highway is a 64.4-mile long stretch of spectacular views of rainforest, waterfalls, beaches and coastline. On the east after Kalepa Bridge, the highway continues to Kīpahulu on the Piilani Highway. Although Hāna is only about 52 miles from Kahului, it takes about 2.5 hours to drive when no stops are made as the highway is very winding and narrow and passes over 59 bridges, 46 of which are only one lane wide. There are approximately 620 curves along Route 360 from just east of Kahului to Hāna, virtually all of it through lush, tropical rainforest. Many of the concrete and steel bridges date back to 1910 and all but one are still in use. This full-day trip to the Hana coast has the best scenic drive along the shorelines of Maui.

The Keanae overlook and peninsula offer views of one of the largest taro farms in Hawaii.

Wailua Falls is perhaps the tallest roadside waterfall on the Hana Highway. This is most popular waterfalls and most congested. For everyones safety we will make a stop here if it is safe to do so if there is a parking. stop made upon request.

I just came back from this trip and very disappointed at making so many meaningless stop farms, which they try to sell you the local organic product. When I read the description online again, I found I missed 3 stops mentioned in the itinerary at least. 1. Wailua Falls, highest and most popular fall 2. Hamoa Beach, “America’s Best Beaches” in 2012. 3. Charles Lindbergh's Grave. In itinerary, they ask you to take your swimming suits and towel for a swimming under the waterfall, they even put a picture of swimming in their advertisement, but no swimming at all. The driver and guide seems to know everything and tell you a lot, but I wish he could drive at a normal casual speed instead of trying to drive as fast as he can and let us stop at the local farms with not much to do if you don't want to buy those organic product.

I am really sorry about your experience. I talked our experienced tour guide about that particular tour. One of the guests had a medical issues. The tour normally returns to hotels by 7:00pm. On that day there was about 45 minutes to 1 hour delay on the road due to construction on the road. Construction on Hana Highway is everyday event. If they don't the roads will be blocked and no one can go into Hana. I don't know what to say to the medical issue. I just want to thank the tour guide bringing everyone safe back home. Pua Ka'a and Blacksand Beach is the best spot to get wet on the tour. We do a full loop around the east side of Maui. Wailua, and Hamoa is along side of the road. Charles Lindbergh's Grave is right off the main highway. He has been driving on the road to over 30 years. He is one of the safe & best driver.

Sean Storm was a fantastic tour guide with a wealth of Hawaiian knowledge. The tour was filled with beautiful scenery and great stops. Be prepared for a full 10 hour day on very very narrow roads. The only suggestion would be more time at the black sand beach...at least 1 1/2 hour. Thanks Sean!! From Toronto and North Carolina

Sean (our driver and tour guide) was great. He was knowledgeable, and navigated the crazy roads really well, allowing adequate time to enjoy our stops.
