The Rocky Mountaineer trip, Rockies to the Red Rocks, between Denver, CO and Moab, UT is remarkable in every respect. The people were great, the food was great, the service was great, the train is great, the scenery was astounding, photo opportunities were great (and continuous), the narrative about what we were seeing was great (history, geology, flora/fauna, tall tales); it was all great. Shoutout to two great hosts: Olivia and Lacey! Totally worth the price of admission. And about that scenery, the majority of the majestic scenery is best seen from an observation railcar while someone else is driving. Some of it is ONLY available to train passengers. The route overlaps that of Amtrak’s California Zephyr from Denver, CO to Brendel, UT. At Brendel, UT, the Mountaineer turns south onto the Cane Creek Subdivision (some spell it Kane) paralleling Highway 191 and stops at a point about 13 miles north of Moab, UT along Highway 191. That last stretch of track is rare mileage for railfans. In 2022, the Mountaineer became the first passenger train in history to traverse that track since the track’s construction was completed in 1962. The track was constructed to connect a potash mine outside of Moab with the east-west D&RGW mainline at Brendel, UT, 10 miles east of Crescent Junction, UT. We loved the two hotels the Mountaineer used: Hotel Maxwell Andersen (was Hotel Denver) in Glenwood Springs and the Hoodoo Moab (Hilton, Curio Collection) in Moab.

We had a party of 6 take the Red Rocks to the Rockies train trip. It was the most upscale, fun train ride we've ever taken. The staff was just amazing taking care of all the passengers needs. The food was outstanding! Great job Dillon. Cheryl was the best narrator and car attendant. She kept us entertained with all her jokes. but was so knowledgeable about the trip. Her husband Neil was part of our journey as well, and surprised the gentlemen in our group a tour of our GP40 engine. We can't thank him enough. It made their day. Also, we can't forget Kendra our bartender. She was very nice to chat with, and made us some fabulous cocktails throughout our journey. This trip exceeded our expectations, and we would recommend this to anyone thinking about taking this trip. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Rocky Mountaineer!

Rocky Mountaineer has completely spoiled my daughter and I -- We will never be able to travel with a lesser train and be satisfied ever again! They truly rolled out the red carpet for us, especially for my daughter on her 14th birthday. The journey itself is unforgettable, but their specialized service made it a truly special and memorable celebration. The hosts were unbelievably incredible, the views were literally breathtaking, and we shared a lot of laughs, too (thanks to the amazing Tristan and the Colorado Salute!!) My daughter and I half-joked that we wish we could just stay on that train forever! An experience unlike any other! Book your trip-- you won't regret it.
