The passion and knowledge of the guide. He obviously cared about the sites, as he discussed fundraising to help maintain them.

Overall, this trip covered the bases. We were staying on the Riverwalk and didnā€™t want to try to navigate the missions on our own. They called and informed they would pick us up at our hotel at 8:30, but ended up getting us at 8:15 in a 15 passenger van, then took us to a larger charter bus. The tour guides Katie and Perry were very enthusiastic. And had a lot of knowledge to share which I found interesting. The driver did not know where to go so Katie was telling him where to go while narrating. Some of the parking areas were not meant for large busses so the driver had trouble getting around in these areas and seemed to run over every curve. Iā€™m not sure if heā€™d ever driven a tour before because even on the main roads he seemed to struggle making turns. He provided us with water bottles at one of the missions. We pulled into one parking area at Mission Espada and they said they werenā€™t supposed to go in that parking area. We just made a quick stop. I would have preferred to explore the entire grounds, but we had to move on to the next stop. At Mission San Juan we couldnā€™t get off the bus. At Mission San Jose, we were told to go take a bathroom break, I ducked into the visitor center really fast to grab my National park passport stamp and sticker and then restroom really quick because I would have missed out on this otherwise. We entered the mission grounds and a park ranger was giving a tour and Perry was projecting very loudly so they moved on away from us. There was a funeral going on inside the church so we werenā€™t able to see inside the church, obviously not the tourā€™s fault. Perry was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed his information on this mission especially the rose window. We then went to mission conception. I enjoyed seeing the restoration of the frescos inside. We then went back and got off the bus at the Hyatt. Overall, this trip is great if you are looking for a basic overview and donā€™t want to drive yourself. The guides were very amiable and enjoyable and know the area well and give a wealth of information. You canā€™t please everyone and we understand that, but maybe extending it by and hour and a half would be good because thereā€™s just so much rich history to see. Iā€™d pay extra it is definitely worth the money for this tour. If you enjoy national parks and want to soak up every detail and read every sign and see every exhibit and see every ruin, do the gift store and take pictures of the National park signs, you wonā€™t be able to and that is understandable based on time constraints. I think we probably could have done the tour ourselves but then, we wouldnā€™t have learned all the interesting things about San Antonio. I wouldā€™ve liked to known ahead of time we couldnā€™t get out at every stop.
