We went out for the 1st trip of the morning, we were out on the water for 2 hours before we had even seen our 1st common dolphin. We were beginning to believe that we wasted our money and our time, we were on a time line to get back to Vegas. The boat left about 15 minutes late from the time we were supposed to, because it took so long to find whales, we saw 2 Humpback whales and a group of Fin Whales, it was pretty cool to see them blow water in the air and see their tails slightly out of water. I think we were a little disappointed, we wanted to see one jump out of the water like you do in the movies, oh well, that's why we went to sea world the day before. It was definitely a life experience, and would definitely go out again. If you go out on the Privateer, make sure you sit on the lower deck in the front. When you see the dolphins they will be along side the front of the vessel, they love to play with the boats. Just a word of warning, everyone will rush to the front and stand so, make sure you are positioned to get to the side of the boat to see the whales if you want a fighting chance of seeing anything.

After purchasing half-off tickets for the attraction, my family (spouse and 4 year old) left the bay area for our 3 hour tour. The guides were very helpful and when sea life were spotted (a variety of dolphins) the on-board marine biologist was able to provide details about the species. Even though no whales were spotted during out outing, we did get to see many different types of dolphins and the captain of the boat was sure to allow for ample time for all passengers on board to view and take pictures. Kids were given a small activity book to keep them occupied throughout the tour which helped greatly. There was a snack bar on the boat that not only had snacks available for purchase, but also sea-sickness tablets for those who didn't think about that (like us). As an added bonus, they keep track of what was spotted during previous outings, both at dockside and online. We will definitely return for another tour during whale season.

Twice in the past two months we've taken friends out whale watching with a dynamic new company in San Diego, San Diego Whale Watch. Both times our guests were delighted. The team is enthusiastic, energetic and incredibly well informed. They've only been in town for a few months, but the staff''s obvious commitment to their customers' having a positive experience makes this a very worthwhile way to spend ahlf a day or a day.
