Bonaventure Cemetery
During this 2.5 hour tour, you will be joining a very exclusive club of people who have seen the cemetery after it closes to the public. Not since it opened in 1846 has this been an opportunity, but thanks to your very special local host, now it is. You are literally locked in the cemetery the entire time; for the right taker, there's no price you can put on the joy of that. Imagine having the serenity, stillness, and quiet of the cemetery, uninterrupted by the living world. Stories stretch from the present day all the way back to Bonaventure's plantation beginnings in 1754. Our topics range from the funny and uplifting to the macabre at its most morbid. Some of the stories that will be covered include those of: • A "hooch runner" for Al Capone • A bizarre love story that ended in one murder and one visit to the electric chair • Savannah's role in The DaVinci Code • Lady Minerva & Jim Williams in Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil

This tour was worth every penny. I would even go as far as to say this was the highlight of our entire Savannah trip. We learned a great deal about Savannah's history and the storytelling was wonderful. Friendly tips - bring a flashlight, bug spray just in case and wear sensible shoes.

My friend and I met in Savannah for the Savannah Children's Book Festival in Forsyth Park. After the festival, we had reservations for the tour in Bonaventure at 5:00. Not really knowing what to expect other than we both love visiting the cemetery, we arrived a little early because of our excitement and looked around on our own. So once 5:00 came, not only did we get the honor of being in the cemetery after hours and in the darkness, but we met a wonderful storyteller. Shannon has a passion for the stories he tells and he breathes life into the people he tells about. Although I knew about some of the people we were told stories of, I felt more for them as the people they were and the lives they led with Shannon's stories. There were other stories that I'd never heard before and it was so interesting to hear them last night and learn a little more about Savannah's people. I love that he started us out with the layout of the cemetery and the symbolism of that. I'm home now from my favorite city, Savannah, and am planning my next trip there, which will include having another tour with Shannon. Same tour, only this time my mom and mother in law will join me because they will LOVE it. I would HIGHLY recommend this tour if you have an interest in history, cemeteries, or just good storytelling.

I'm so happy Deb that you honored my efforts with such a passionate one of your own. It means so much that something I'm doing here in Savannah has added more to your favorite city. It means what I'm doing out here in my little patch of story land called Bonaventure is succeeding and I'm so blessed by your patronage and again, am in your eternal gratitude for sharing your own story about my stories. Really hope you return often and that I get to see your faces again and as I like to say, Roam together in Bonaventure and share things as people!

When my brother in law wanted to take us to Shannon's Bonaventure cemetery tour I was a little skeptical--is this a good way to spend 2.5 hours? Was this a good idea when pouring rain was predicted? This cemetery tour was hands down the best tour of any type we've ever been on. By telling their stories Shannon returned to life the people long buried at Bonaventure, and doing so, animated the whole life of the South, and of Savannah in particular. He took us through lives of the wealthy and the common man, to the plantation party moved outside (but continuing) while the plantation main house burned, to the story of one of America's premier music men. The pouring rain near the end of the tour did not detour a single person of our group back to their cars. All held on for the very last of Shannon's recountings-he clearly loves his work and so did we. This is a treasure not to be missed!
