Bonaventure Cemetery
During this 2.5 hour tour, you will be joining a very exclusive club of people who have seen the cemetery after it closes to the public. Not since it opened in 1846 has this been an opportunity, but thanks to your very special local host, now it is. You are literally locked in the cemetery the entire time; for the right taker, there's no price you can put on the joy of that. Imagine having the serenity, stillness, and quiet of the cemetery, uninterrupted by the living world. Stories stretch from the present day all the way back to Bonaventure's plantation beginnings in 1754. Our topics range from the funny and uplifting to the macabre at its most morbid. Some of the stories that will be covered include those of: • A "hooch runner" for Al Capone • A bizarre love story that ended in one murder and one visit to the electric chair • Savannah's role in The DaVinci Code • Lady Minerva & Jim Williams in Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil

Shannon was an excellent tour guide. His knowledge of the people buried in Bonaventure and the stories behind their lives brought the cemetery to life, so to speak. Savannah is well known for its eccentric populus, but the stories inside Bonaventure Cemetery complete the town. A wonderful two hour experience that should be a "MUST" for everyone visiting Savannah.

I went with my mom and my sister on Thursday, March 8, 2012 and we had a very good time. I had purchased a groupon prior to our trip to Savannah and we added on the option of transportation because we did not have a car and Bonaventure Cemetery is about a 15 minute trip outside downtown Savannah. Our tour was close to 3 hours long and was filled with many interesting stories about Bonaventure, Savannah history and the lives of many people buried there. We visited the burial sites of Conrad Aiken, Johnny Mercer, Little Gracie and many more. Shannon is a wonderful guide and obliviously a huge enthusiasm for Bonaventure and preserving the history.

We've been on cemetery tours before, but none as captivating as this one. Shannon is a great story teller who has done his research. We found his personal insights fascinating and helped to "bring to life" the statuary and inscriptions that abound here. We not only had a deeper appreciation for the enchantment of this cemetery, but a better understanding of Savannah history when this tour was completed. This is a rewarding use of three hours, as it gets under the glossy tales you'll find on the trolley tours. We noticed that another reviewer excoriated Shannon because he was "full of himself." We don't necessarily disagree, but neither do we see that as a criticism. Shannon is a lover of Bonaventure, of Savannah, and of truth. We're more than happy to spend three hours with that kind of self.
