The Culinary Tour was the first tour of our vacation. It set the standard for things to come throughout our stay. Franny Russell was our guide and she was absolutely wonderful. We visited three restaurants, a spice/tea shop, and a candy store. Each of the stops was wonderful and unique in terms of the food - we sampled amazing cuisine from Charleston in each of the restaurants (grits, she crab soup, and BBQ). Once the tour was over, we went back to purchase items from the spice/tea shop which we may not have done had we not stopped in at the shop. As we ate, Franny regaled us with the history of Charleston as it related to the tour stops. My one suggestion - don't eat before the tour and don't book a meal immediately after the tour. While the portions given at the restaurants aren't huge, there is a lot of heavy food consumed on the tour.

Franny was a fantastic guide. My wife and I were lucky to to have a "private" tour with her. She took her time explaining all about each stop and answered all of our questions. In addition, she wove in some interesting history of Charleston (and not just food history). The food was good and plentiful. Took the whole 2-1/2 hr estimated time and the actual walk was less than a mile. I can't think of a better way to sample Charleston. Be sure to ask if Franny is available. Maybe you'll get lucky and she'll have a rather small group so you can really learn some history and a lot about the food scene in this beautiful city.

Great food tour with our incredible guide, Fran. Personal and touching stories shared with us about growing up in the Low Country while we enjoyed the market and various restaurants and shops. Go in the morning so you can work off the delicious food you will sample - there is lots of it!
