Overview

Kauai Offshore Adventures operates the only raft capable of crossing the channel to Niihau- The Forbidden Island. Niihau has some of the clearest water anywhere in Hawai'i and a variety of sea life that cannot be matched. Our captains will introduce you to the history and geography of the fascinating island before finding a beautiful snorkeling location to set up an anchor and get in the water. Common sights in the waters around Niihau include endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals, Hawaiian Sea Turtles, Tropical Reef Fish, Manta Rays, Small Harmless Sharks, Whale Sharks, Octopus, and everything else that can be imagined. In this winter time, we will also be able to see Humpback Whales in the channel. Guests who book this tour should be comfortable in the ocean and have some familiarity with snorkeling.

Enjoy the exhilarating power of our Super Raft- Kauai Voyager I, as we race across the 18 mile channel to our destination. At Niihau, enjoy snorkeling in some of the cleanest water anywhere in Hawaii. As the only raft capable of venturing to Niihau, we are able to provide our guests with a true once in a lifetime experience.

This was truly an epic adventure!! A Ni'ihau snorkel/dive was on my bucket list and I finally got over there with Captain J's!! Captain J and the crew is very safety-conscious yet super chill and fun. The channel crossing is no joke if there's a swell, but the ride was very comfortable all things considered. The trip to and from Ni'ihau featured some fun tunes which set the tone for a festive trip. When we arrived at Ni'inau, we saw monk seals, oodles of manta rays, and we had great bird watching. We saw a whale at a distance on the way over (we visited at the very start of whale season - I imagine during Dec-Feb there are tons of whale sightings. The snorkeling was at a more advanced level than some other trips we've been on and was pretty amazing. In spite of some decent wave action, the visibility was impressive.

Thank you for letting new friends know about this amazing destination. Yes you are correct it is more advanced. We are literally at the end of the modern world. The day was blessed with many manta rays and indeed a breaching whale. Your comment about December through February is correct. Niihau is a Whale magnet. The isolated crater of Lehua with its steep and deep drop offs allow for so much to happen. We want to take this opportunity to point out that indeed the channel crossing is “no joke”. We had a mild day and it can be better conditions and much more than you encountered. This is a journey and all are welcome but take into consideration your stamina and intentions before joining us. It is not for the first time swimmer and those that may lack fortitude. The sanctuary of Lehua and the reverence of Niihau are protected by a brisk and active channel at times. Looking back onto Kauai from “ the other side” is an awakening. Glad you enjoyed the day and thank you so much for sharing with others. J

I had the pleasure of going to Niihau on the super raft. This boat flies and rides super smooth. The water around the island is tranquil and snorkled with resident monk seals. Good food and great fun. A must while visiting Kauai!
